Install Keemate

A few minutes from installation to your first useful command.

4 min read·macOS · Apple Silicon

Before you begin

You’ll need an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 13 or later. Keemate is currently in beta. You can use the Mac app without owning a Studio Pad.

Get the current beta from the Keemate app page. If access is by invitation, request the beta there and use the download instructions you receive.

Install the app

  1. Open the downloaded disk image.

  2. Drag Keemate into your Applications folder.

  3. Open Keemate from Applications and complete the setup shown in the app.

Keep Keemate in Applications rather than running it from the disk image. This gives macOS a consistent location when it remembers the app’s permissions.

Give Keemate the access it needs

Keemate asks for macOS permissions so it can work with other apps. Review each permission in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

  • Accessibility lets Keemate work with selected text, send keyboard actions, and control windows.

  • Screen Recording is used for screen capture features, such as asking about a snapshot. macOS may label this Screen & System Audio Recording.

  • Notifications let Keemate tell you when a background task needs attention or has finished.

Grant the permissions for the features you want to use. If macOS asks you to quit and reopen Keemate after a change, do that before trying the feature again.

Open the command bar

Press Control + Space from any app. The Keemate command bar appears over your work. Start typing to find a command, app, file, or tool.

You can change the shortcut in Keemate’s Settings → General. If the default shortcut is already used by another app or an input source, choose a combination that is available on your Mac.

Try your first command

Open a text editor, type a short sentence, and select it. Press Control + Space, search for Fix Grammar, and press Return. A rewrite command can replace the selected text in the original app.

Use a disposable sentence for your first test. Once that works, try Keemate in the apps you use every day.

Continue with your first AI command for input, output, and undo behavior. If the bar does not open or the selection is missing, visit Troubleshooting.
