Two ways to run AI

Included models use Keemate’s AI service and your available Keemate credits. Your own API key uses your account with an AI provider. These are different billing and request paths.

You can use the app’s non-AI tools without making an AI request. Cloud AI commands need an internet connection and access to the selected model.

Use included credits

Choose an included model from the model picker. Keemate sends the request through its gateway, which forwards it to the model provider and meters usage. Your available balance and account controls are shown in the app.

Credit use depends on the model and the amount of input and output. A large document or a long response can use more credits than a brief grammar correction. Check the app for the current allowance and terms rather than relying on an old screenshot.

Connect your own provider

Open the Models or API Keys area in Settings. Choose a supported provider and add the key from your account with that provider. Then select one of its available models.

API keys are stored in the macOS Keychain. Requests using your own key go directly to the selected provider, whose usage charges and data policies apply. A subscription to a provider’s chat app does not necessarily include API credit.

Never paste an API key into a guide, support message, shared screenshot, or public command. If a key is exposed, revoke it with the provider and create a replacement.

Choose a default or a command-specific model

Your default model is used when an action does not specify a different choice. A command can pin its own model, and a multi-step AI command can offer a choice for each step.

Start with your default. Change a command’s model when you have a reason, such as response quality, speed, or cost. The model recorded on a finished task helps you understand which one actually ran.

Understand the data path

Keemate stores app configuration and local tool data on your Mac. AI processing can send selected text, attachments, snapshots, or enabled context to the service that runs the model.

• Included model: your Mac → Keemate gateway → model provider.

• Your API key: your Mac → your selected model provider.

• Local tools: features such as launching an app do not require an AI request.

Choose context deliberately and review the current privacy policy. If an AI request fails, check the selected model, connection, and balance or provider key.
